Cold Weather

When the is in the mid 30s I usually switch from riding on the road to riding on the trails. This past week the temperatures were in 20s at night and mid to high 30s during the day. On Wednesday I road the Edgar Felix trail from Allaire State Park to Manasquan. I did mix in a few roads so its more of a loop than an out and back ride but it is a easy and safe ride to do on my mountain bike.

One interesting thing on the beach is a Christmas tree. The town puts a tree on the beach an has some events with Santa. This year some one actually built a small squat sand snowman next to the tree.

This past Saturday I did a Lawrence Hopewell trail ride that Laura led. We did the trail counter clockwise from the Brealey house. Usually I do the trail in the other direction so it felt a little weird as the normal downhills were climbs and vise versa. The trail is constantly being improved and expanded. There were a few more paved sections which got rid of some the annoying mushy spots.

As we passed through Lawrence right before we got to the school we actually had a rest stop at the Ginger Peach which had some impressive looking and good tasting baked goods. I didn't really want to stop since it was cold out but the caramel crackel thing I got was worth the stop even though I got a little chilled.

When we went to leave Jeff had a flat. Since we were only a few miles from the end of the ride we left Jeff and rode back to the start while Jeff tired to fix the tire. I then went back for Jeff. If he had it fixed then he could ride home but unfortunately he could not get the tire off so I put his bike in may car and drove him home. He has a 12mm through axle for his front wheel so this gave me a chance to try out my MUQZI bike mount on my rebuilt rack. Although it took me a few minutes to find the correct adapter it worked without a problem so I confirmed that I should be able to carry any type of bike in my rack.

Riding in the cold weather is not my favorite type of riding but I will continue to find ways to ride through the cold since not riding is NOT an option.
